Frequently Asked Questions
- Where does the silver come from?
All of my silver has been recycled, I buy it in after it has been through the recycling process from a company in Birmingham called Cookson Gold. They are the main UK company used by metalsmiths.
- Do I work with solid gold?
No, purely because I can't afford it! However, I do have some pieces made from gold filled metal which is a very thick 9ct gold plated metal. Much more durable that gold plated jewellery. If you're interested in buying some gold pieces which are not on my site. Please feel free to reach out.
- Where my gemstones come from
I am as careful as I possibly can be with gemstones. I'm very conscious and try to be as ethical as I can. I mainly use Kernow Craft for my gems or I buy the synthetic and lab created stones from Desert Creek Rocks, a talented lapidarist in South Wales.
- Can I wear my jewellery in water?
Yes and ideally no...You absolutely can wear silver in the water but I suggest not wearing gemstone jewellery in water. I include dishwashing, swimming, shower, bath etc. Please be aware that the water will tarnish any copper and brass very quickly, so if you have bought pieces from me which include either of those metals, the tarnish is natural and can be removed with a cleaning cloth or jewellery dip.
- Do I do commissions?
Yes! I welcome commissions. I am very honest though and if I think it is beyond my skillset, I will politely decline. But I do love working with customers to create their dream piece!
- Chain help!
The majority of my chains are delicate 1 - 1.1mm sterling silver curb chains. I offer lengths of 16", 18", 20", 22" and 24". I also have thicker belcher chains which I tend to offer with the chunkier and masculine style pieces. I also oxidise some chains depending in the pendant it will be worn with.
- What does oxidising mean?
I use a liquid called Liver of Sulphur which instantly darkens the silver. I then clean it off and polish up the piece. The darkness will not permanently stick to a smooth surface, so I only use it on pieces which I have distressed so that it will always sit in the indentations.
- Can you barter?
Please no! I work on very little mark-up so that the jewellery is as affordable as possible. If you knock me down on price, it means that I will have less money in the bank to invest in more silver.
