On the third Sunday in June in the UK we celebrate Father's Day. A day to show our appreciation, support, love and sometimes to remember our dads (of human or fur babies) or father figures.
Father's Day came from America in the early 1900's when a lady, who was raised by her Father proposed that they have a day much like Mother's Day but dedicated to our Fathers. Since then, the day has been recognised by most countries across the world.
Our love is shown to our father figures in the way of cards and gifts, but most importantly, a day to bring the family together for a celebration.
Unfortunately I am without a dad and currently I'm not living close to his grave. However, although I wont technically be celebrating with him, he will be in my heart and words of love and gratitude will be whispered to him. That is no different from most days though! But other words "softly whispered" can be along the lines of "dad, why did you make me so stubborn" or "dad, where did I put my glasses?" which was an in-joke due to the fact he was ALWAYS loosing his glasses, more often than not they could be found on his head!
A short one today! I hope you and your loved ones enjoy Sunday celebrating your dads and father figures. I know we will.
P.S. This entry was written with a little robin sitting outside my window. Whether you believe in the robin theory or not, it always brings a smile to my face thinking that Dad COULD be sitting next to me.
